서울여자대학교(Seoul Women's University)

서울여자대학교는 대한민국 서울특별시 노원구에 소재한 사립종합대학교이다. 서울여자대학교는 기독교 정신에 기초를 둔 지식교육, 도의교육, 기술교육을 균형있게 실시함으로써 인류의 행복에 기여할 수 있는 지(智)·덕(德)·술(術)을 겸비한 여성지도자를 양성하기 위하여 1961년 4월 15일 설립되었다. 초대 학장으로 고황경 박사가 취임하였으며, 1961년 5월 20일을 개교기념일로 제정했다. 2010년 6월 교육과학기술부 주관 학부교육 선진화 선도대학 지원사업과 교육역량강화 지원사업, 대학 입학사정관제 지원사업 대학으로 선정되었다. 2013년 12월 교육부, 한국대학교육협의회 주관 대학기관평가인증제의 인증을 획득하였다. 2014년 6월 교육부 주관 고교교육 정상화 기여대학 지원사업과 2014년 학부교육 선도대학 육성사업에 재선정되어 교육중심대학으로서의 입지를 확고히 하게 되었다. 또 동년 7월 교육부 주관 대학 특성화 사업에도 5개 사업단이 선정되면서 정부재정지원사업에 연이어 선정됐다. 2014년 12월 교육부 주관 정보보호영재교육원으로 선정되었으며, 2015년 6월 미래창조과학부 주관 정보보호특성화대학으로 선정되었다. 2015년 8월 교육부 대학구조개혁평가에서 최우수 A등급을 획득하였다. 개교 이래 생활공동체 기반의 미래지향적 인성교육 프로그램인 바롬인성교육 프로그램을 운영하고 있다. 2014년 12월에는 바롬인성교육을 외부기관에 확산·보급하는 등 국가와 사회가 필요로 하는 인성교육에 기여한 점을 높이 평가받아 대학 최초로 2014 대한민국 인성교육대상을 수상했다. 2016년 기준 4개 대학원, 5개 단과대학(인문대학, 사회과학대학, 자연과학대학, 미래산업융합대학, 아트앤디자인스쿨), 1개 학부(자율전공학부), 23개 학과와 10개의 전공으로 구성되어 있다. Seoul Women's University was established in a turbulent time in Korean history, when the nation called for leaders with strong morality and knowledge to build a democratic republic. Since its establishment, Seoul Women's University has provided a limited number of students with a unique set of higher education to raise well-rounded intellectuals in specific fields, as opposed to the masses who aspire only to success. The university aims to educate a selected number of female leaders with intelligence, Christian ethics and knowledge. The university encourages its students to rise above aiming for egotistic success or reputation so as to be true leaders that today's society demands. The graduates have made remarkable contributions to Korean society as well as the global community. They have been instrumental in developing the rural communities, often neglected in this modernized society, in promoting a moral spirit in different areas of society, and in advancing peace and happiness in the world.
